The sports biking scene had originally started with the

Ninja 250R, for it came with exactly what riders and enthusiasts were looking for: a quarter-litre bike with a full fairing, mind-numbing performance and looks to die for. It was loaded with tech and was the best in its segment in terms of performance. With its superb riding dynamics and parallel-twin engine, it was loved by many but unfortunately afforded by only a few due to its high price tag. However, the bike did start showing its age in our market, which prompted Kawasaki to bring in the Ninja 300. It’s a bike for those who’d love to set out on an adventure and occasionally hit the track as well. It is also the cheapest twin-cylinder motorcycle you can buy on the market today.


Packed neatly within the frame is a 296cc, twin-cylinder engine that produces 39bhp and 27Nm of torque. The motor is liquid-cooled and comes paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. The Kawasaki Ninja 300 is currently BSVI-compliant.


The Ninja 300 is full of sharp design cues, making it a rather aggressive-looking machine. It looks like it is inspired by its larger sibling – the ZX-10R. It starts with those large twin headlamps at the front, that floating windscreen, and the sculpted fuel tank design. It also gets some sporty graphics which add to its appeal. Also, note how the indicators are integrated into the fairing. There are some other details as well that have been borrowed from bigger bikes, like the multi-spoke alloy wheels, the slats in the fairing and the dual-tone exhaust. The tail section remains more or less the same. It gets brushed aluminium footpegs and an exposed sub-frame. The instrument cluster consists of a big tachometer and a small digital speedometer. It gets a lot of warning lights for engine temperature, engine oil pressure and low battery voltage. You also get a shift light, high beam and individual indicators. The switchgear is of good quality and the gloss black switches feel good to operate. In terms of dimensions, the Ninja 300 is 2015mm in length, 715mm in width and 1110mm in height. Throttle response is nice and linear, and NVH levels are great with no vibration filtering through. The bike is super quick and can reach a top speed of 140kph. The clutch is light and works well, and the bike corners with a lot of confidence. Also, the exhaust has a unique sound to it.


The Kawasaki Ninja 300 has a fuel tank capacity of 17 litres. In terms of mileage, the Kawasaki Ninja 300 is capable of returning 25kmpl by ARAI, in BSIV guise.

Mechanical Parts

On the Ninja, you’re seated quite comfortably despite the slightly sporty riding posture. The seat is set in the right position, and the low-set footpegs make it a good combination. The saddle is a bit on the firm side, and the sculpted tank allows you to crouch and hug the tank when you feel like some enthusiastic riding. Also, the rearview mirrors are well set. The Ninja 300 is a bike that can be enjoyed on long stints as well. The bike feels a lot more stable than before, thanks to the longer wheelbase. The bike handles remarkably well as it is agile and feels planted around corners. The tyres provide good grip and the motorcycle loves being flicked around. Even in traffic, the Ninja 300 feels nice and nimble. And the brakes do a swell job in bringing the bike to a grinding halt. At the front, the bike rides on telescopic hydraulic forks, while the rear gets a bottom-link uni-track with a gas-charged shock-absorber setup. As far as the chassis is concerned, it is built around a steel tube diamond frame. The Ninja 300 runs on 110/70-17 tyres at the front and 140/70-17 tyres at the rear. Retardation duties are taken care of by disc brakes at the front and at the rear.


Features include circuit-developed diamond frame, modern instrumentation, world’s smallest ABS unit, heat management technology, race-derived clutch technology, fine-atomising injectors and dual throttle valves.


The Kawasaki Ninja 300, as of early 2020, is sold in four shades: Candy Plasma Blue, Moon Dust Grey, Lime Green/Ebony and Lime Green.
